Spring has sprung in the woodland.

Work parties will be held on the first Saturday of the month 10am – 12 noon (weather permitting) (Excluding January + February) However, we do take part in the national RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch starting at 11am for 1 hour.

When? 

Work Party  –  The first Saturday of each month 10am – noon  (weather permitting)

An email reminder will be sent to the Friends of Montefiore Woodland a couple of days before each work party, although these won’t take place in bad weather.

(Please complete free online membership form to ensure receipt of emails.)

Where? Meet in the Clearing in Montefiore Woodland.

What? Tasks :  In September, hopefully the weather is kind allowing the meadow to brush-cut. However, all cuttings need to be removed to reduce nutrients in this area.

In spring / early summer removal of Alexander is always a priority and in the future Cow Parsley may also be reduced.

Ivy removal from the trees is another on-going task as is our litter collection.

What?  To count the number of butterflies seen in the woodland for the national survey big butterfly count.

Bat Walks Summer 2024.

Community Woodland Twilight Strolls starting from Montefiore Woodland and finishing within King George VI Park looking and listening for Bats!

You are invited to join us on one of our twilight strolls around Montefiore Woodland, along the local alleyways finishing at King George VI Park. We have several Bat Detectors to assist with location of any bats within the vicinity and many, especially children, delight in hearing these monitors when activated! This is a gentle stroll suitable for all ages.

A shorter one hour Work Party to tidy up and plant our hedge whips around the rear of the Wildflower Meadow, before going across to the Emporium Cafe for a well-earned “thank you Cuppa” to our wonderful, loyal volunteers (payment of which is on us, our Treasurer will be there with the Woodland cheque book!)
